Universidad

Did I mention? I started college on Monday. It’s… ok… My lectures have all been mostly introductory so far, and I haven’t made any friends yet, and it seems like it’s going to be a lot more work than I originally thought, but then again, maybe not. I guess I’ll know when I actually get some work to do.

One things for sure: I’ll never get used to these feckin flourescent lights. Ow my ovaries. I mean head. I should wear sunglasses all the time. I’d be the coolest kid on campus. I actually wore sunglasses into a nightclub before, just for kicks and giggles. They were more fashiony ones than an actual eye protection device, so I could still see grand. It was great fun except for all the assholes coming up to me and saying “uuuuh, it’s a bit dark for sunglasses boy, duuuh…” (drooling on their own shoes), but of course, that was what was actually so fun about it :) People took it so personally.

A little to the right…

You may notice I edited the style sheet for my page. The title bar doesn’t go all the way to the left border of the window like it did before. Small thing I know. Really have to get that css thing sorted out when I have a free minute. And not such a throbbing pain in my skull. I mean ovaries. No skull, definately skull.

I’m sure this “blogging” isn’t doing me much good on the skull-pain front, so I’m going to go find the computer labs in the food science building, glance at them, and go home.

Looks like hell for me.

My soul is worth £14582. 62% of people have a purer soul than me. Apparently.

Poetry sux

Thursday, September 25th, 2003

When I was drunk last night I had a conversation with my friends girlfriend about poetry. She said she’d critique some for me, if I write it on a sheet of paper and pass it to her next time I see her. I think I was annoying her. I don’t know which ones I’m going to pick anyway, so I probably won’t bother. Sometimes I love my stuff, but the moment I consider showing somebody every word turns to shit. Liquid shit. Verbal diahrea! (How the hell do you spell that?)

I know, I’m gross.

So I might as well stick some up here just to get it out there and ease my mind. It’s not like anybody’s going to read it, but at least it’ll be in the public domain.

This Place, by Kevin Houlihan

This place-
It’s sullen streets
Slick with the venom
Of unbanished snakes,
Teeming with vermin
And cancer’s disease
And nowhere to run;
It’s infected me.

I was going to post another one, but I can’t remember it off the top of my head.

I met my mentor today. He seems pretty cool. I should have asked him more stuff about the computers on campus and stuff.

Gotta run take a tour!

Cupla Focail Part Deux

I noticed as I was writing an email to my sis a while ago that my writing style varies drastically depending on who I’m writing to. When I write to her I’m witty (possibly) and full of shit, and wierd wierd language. It’s somewhat similar for another group of people, but somewhat toned down, and then anybody else I’m totally serious. I think the middle one is best and I should write like that always, but it just doesn’t come naturally, or at all, like it does with my sister. Bizarre.

Apparently, and I have no reason to doubt it, I have, in my room, a connection to the UCC network. That should be fun to explore :) I was told that it was a satellite connection, but that seems a little over the top to connect to a network that’s less than a mile away. I’m guessing it’s wireless. Possibly… that might be my link to the internet as well… Hm. Fast + Always On = droool.

I’ve been working on securing my own little network, exchanging telnet with ssh, and turning off unnecessary services. There’s some I can’t figure out, but in time I’m sure (How often do I say that, and how often does it become true? Lets see, GDAM, no. MOL, no. DRI… no. :| Do I suck or am I just lazy?) I’m sure there’s lots of other stuff I should do too. Lots. I don’t want to mention them, because then I’ll just feel bad when I don’t do them.

I’ve been messing around with nmap and ethereal a bit. They’re great fun! I can’t wait to unleash them on the internet.

Gonna buy me a webcam too. A cheapo one. Hopefully it’ll work.

I’m in Cork now. It’s good to be back. I just wrote out the whole story twice in emails, so I’m really not in the mood to do it here. I have no internet access in my room yet, so updates will be infrequent.

Later,
Kev

…I’m Leaving… Tomorrow…

Tomorrow I’m off to Cork for college. Computer Science.

Don’t look at me like that!

I’m a bit nervous about it. I’ve never lived away from home before. And I’m not very good at making friends.

Now to finish packing, and get drunk by way of farewell…

Muahahaha! I’m compiling MOL (Mac-on-Linux) at the moment, and it seems to be working. I just gave up after it didn’t work the first time, because I wasn’t interested in MacOS at all at the time. Now I just want to be able to get at it without having to reboot.
