Patch for openGogear – play songs in any directory.

Wednesday, February 15th, 2006

openGogear is a free suite of tools to get the Philips GoGear HDD0xx mp3 players working with Linux.
Currently it only works with MP3 files that are in the main “audio” directory – I’ve written a patch so it will play your MP3s that are in any directory, allowing you to better organise your collection of songs etc. Download it here.

Open Source contributions

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

When she listed Irish Open Source types today, Noireen Plunkett got me thinking of some of the projects I’ve contributed to. Here’s a list of them:

  1. file – No coding required – data tests submitted for identifying iRiver H series database files and identifying which version of SQLite generated a specific sqlite database file – very handy as they aren’t backwards compatible.
  2. GLade python Code Generator (GLC) – takes Glade XML files and generates python code to generate the GUI interface described by the XML.
  3. Gnome Basic – many many years ago I worked on something that would compile Visual Basic source code into Linux executables. Of course the project is no more as we have Mono now.
  4. GTML (a HTML preprocessor) – localised to Irish, plus a few other tweaks.

I’m sure there are a few more – can’t think of them right now though!

Cloughjordan/The Village in today’s Metro

Friday, February 3rd, 2006

Very suprised/please to notice a full page feature on The Village which is based in Cloughjordan, where I hail from, on page fifteen of today’s Metro. All in all, it’s going to be very good for the local economy and the community as a whole.
