Processor Wear and Tear

Mentioned this on IRC earlier …

< pron> Hmm … just been given out to for “spinning a processor” too fast on a sun box – seems “Spinning the CPU like your doing puts alot of wear and tear on the chip.”
< pron> (Cut ‘n’ Paste – spelling mistakes are not mine
< elrond> pron: What fscking MORON told you that ?
< paul> pron: they were joking right?
< ann> elrond: well, was he physically spinning it on some sandpaper?
< ann> it would be true then…
< elrond> Can’t argue with that.
< paul> pron: as long as you get have your UltraSPARC serviced regularly, it shouldnt be a problem, be sure to have the carbs balanced and the oil changed each time.
< pron> elrond: sysadmin from the performance lab
< pron> I’ve a perl script in a rather tight while loop
< paul> pron: he sounds like a bright sparc
< paul> pron: get a K&N airfilter and fit bigger jets, your ultrasparc will go faster.
< elrond> Well, a tight loop may affect performance of the box, but it’s not about to wear out the processor.. That’s just fscking unbelievable.
< elrond> Tell him you’ll oil it reg’lar.

*sigh* … You really gotta wonder
