In regedit alter “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor\CompletionChar”
Change its value to 9 (ASCII code for the TAB character), and Robert’s your mothers’ brother!

I noticed there are a lot of specialty airlines these days. For example, Hooters has its own airline targeted at horny men, and Virgin has an airline targeted at virgins. My idea is to start Atheist Airlines, targeted at non-believers who want to avoid security delays.

At Atheist Air, prior to boarding, passengers would be required to spout blasphemous remarks at a display of artifacts from all the major religions. This effectively weeds out anyone who has a secret plan to meet the Creator in the next few hours. Blasphemers would be allowed to carry-on pickaxes, blowtorches, chainsaws, nun chucks, whatever, under the theory that atheists generally try to avoid hurting other people in any situation where there isn’t a clear escape route.

Actually got into the house today to do the snagging … loads of basic (but cosmetic) stuff needs doing … patches of paint, handles on cupboard doors … vent covers etc. Oh … and the power-shower and plumbing in general !
Otherwise things are well with the house … wrote a cheque for the snagger on site … drove home (about 20 mins or so), arrived home and decided I’d ensure there was enough cash in the bank account to cover the cheque … it had already been cleared !
Now all we have to do is find €14,500 somewhere!

Was helping Baud figure out an smtp problem earlier … so needed to manually auth on his mailserver … that required using base64 encoded login credentials. Which led me to this online calculator.

Just got word … the house will be ready for Snagging on Thursday next. Time to sort out someone to actually look at it !

Just got a call from the Buliders, looks like we’ll be snagging Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Just waiting for the confirmation call on Friday !

Still no word from the builders on the odds of us getting in to snag this week … The bank’s valuation guy was out last week and there was no problem there … so hopefully we’ll know soon !

Called the builders on Friday to see what the craic was … seems the painters are due to finish today … so we’ll probably be in snagging this week. Have to call them this afternoon to confirm …
In other news – replaced the hard drive in the laptop (Vaio FX401) over the weekend … backed up all the contents (Linux and XP) to the NAS first … and then restored using a knoppix CD …

Linux worked first time, but the windows backup was a lot more trouble .. fixed it eventually by reformatting as FAT32 using Microsoft’s own format (from an XP install / rescue CD) and restored the backup …. everything now seems to be okay !

It’s been almost a year since we signed for the house – and still no signs that we’ll be in before the end of the month.
Spoke to the foreman on Thursday evening … young fella, not really confidence inspiring either … especially when I asked him why we still hadn’t been asked in to snag yet, despite a promise we’d be in three weeks ago (and originally in Januray !). His reply was “Things don’t always go to plan.”
Um yeah – No sh1t ! – so I asked him what went wrong, and explained that Sinead needs to be in before September 1st (being a teacher it’d help somewhat to be in the same county as the school) … so we should be snagging in about 10 days time (The painters are due to go in this week … then it *should* be okay …
(I still wonder how it takes a team of professional painters a week to paint a 1000sq.ft. house in “Dulux Buttermilk” and white on the ceilings …)

It’s been reported in the Fingal Independent that there’s a massive theme park planned for North Dublin, near Lusk (where our house is^H^Hwill be)

ONE of the biggest theme parks in the world has been earmarked for a 2000 acre site in a rural part of North County Dublin.

Developers have begun talks with the dozens of local landowners near Lusk as they attempt to secure the massive land bank for the prime development, set to cost billions.

Talked to the on-site people yesterday … very nice overall … but it seems we won’t be in the house before mid-late September at this stage … which is taking the proverbial!

Going out to the site this afternoon to have a word with the foreman … I’m not overly optimistic it’ll have any major effect … but you have to try … Sinead would be starting a new job at the end of the month … so we really need to be based on that side of the world !
