It appears that Rackspace panicked when presented with the requirements of the FBI. <a href="http://www.eff.org/Censorship/Indymedia/" title="Indymedia Story" rel="nofollow">You can read all about it</a>. It appears that all the FBI wanted were the access logs of the Indymedia web sites, and as the deadline was coming close, because Rackspace was having difficulty finding the logs, they ripped out the hard-drives and gave them over to the FBI and said, "Here, you find them!" So. What can we learn from this? - There are agreements between countries that allow an investigation agency of one country to conduct operations on the soil of another. - There are companies that are so terrified of these agencies that they will happily infringe on the rights of their customers in order to comply with requests from these foreign agencies. - We are expected to like this.
