New motorway to forgo toll in snarl-ups

According to todays Irish Times, the National Roads Authority have reached an agreement with the operators of the new Kilcock to Kinnegad toll-motorway (which, incidently, is opening a welcome 10 months ahead of schedule!), whereby, if traffic becomes congested, with motorists having to join a queue of more than 5 car lenghts, the barriers will automatically open, allowing toll and barrier free passage in order to ease congestion.

The fact that the 9 toll booths in each direction exceeds that of the West Link, combined that they are only expecting 18,000 vehicles a day to pass through, compared to the 100,000 vehicles a day on the West Link will do nothing to ease the anger of all of us who have to endure the M50 car park anywhere near a resonable hour of the day!
