Another sporting legend is lost
Sunday, November 27th, 2005I haven’t posted about the recent death of George Best on here. I understand and appreciate the sense of loss that so many people are feeling right now, he truly was a legend and a wholly engaging character. Plenty has, and will continue to be written about the genius that was for many years to come.
However, in all the George Best news that has rightfully been filling all the various media forms over the past few days, the fact that 2001 World Rally Champion, Richard Burns has lost a long battle against a brain tumour, has gone relatively un-mentioned. There is a statement on his website detailing the struggle he has had for the past two years since passing out on his way to the Welsh Rally in November 2003.
He will doubtless be sorely missed by the World Rally Championship and all its fans, of which I am one, and which has already had a tragic year.
Brrr

Yet another Irish list hijack
Thursday, November 24th, 2005I see that Rick is trying to encourage us Irish to do what we have done so well before and hijack a BBC poll!! This time he wants us to vote Peter Crouch, the Liverpool Football Club striker, who has not scored a single goal (amazing for a striker really!) this season, as BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
To vote, you will need to go here, and enter Peter Crouch as the personality, and you’re email address.
Go on, you know it makes sense!!
Have lens, need camera
Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005Latest update back from Canon is that my EF-S 17-85 which I sent away with the camera is winging it’s way back to Ireland as we speak, however, there is still no ETA on the actual camera itself making its way back yet!! Now, that’s a nice, useful way about doing things!
Photobox Prints – results
Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005A few people have been asking me about the prints from Photobox that I ordered last week. I received the prints on Monday, and I have to say, I’m quite impressed with what they sent. Only gripe really would be that the paper they printed on is slightly thin (thinner than normal photo prints), but, that could just have been down to the size of print that I ordered. Then again, 7×5’s are normally for framing, so, I’d be interested to see what a 6×4, which is what we’re more used to handling comes out like. Other than that, all round colour representation and quality is more than I had expected, and that, coupled with the ease of use via picasa, and the prices of prints mean that I will most definitely be using them again in the future!
10 Years On
Monday, November 21st, 200510 years ago today, the Dayton Peace Accord was signed in order to put an end to the Bosnian War. During the past summer, I visited Mostar in Bosnia, and driving in from Croatia, it was quite shocking to see that the country is still suffering hugely from the ravages of war.
I’ve included just a selection of the photo’s that I took that day in Mostar. It’s quite shocking to see the amount of bullet and shell damage that is still evident throughout the entire town.

This image is of a Five Star hotel in the centre of the town which was bombed in or around Christmas time, evident by the fact that all these years later, there are still Christmas and New Years decorations hanging from the outside of the building.

This is a shelled out house on the Catholic side of town (see the cross on the wall)

Bullet holes and shell damage on the side wall of a house

The view through the front door of a house. Note the bullet holes in the wall, and the mortar hole blasted through the walls in the background. These houses were being lived in at the time this damage was carried out!
