Stone Age Monaco

Tuesday, April 29th, 2003

Ah I just don’t understand this. As I’ve said here already, I’ve been trying to buy tickets for the Monaco Grand Prix the past few days. I’ve decided to buy them direct from the Automobile Club de Monaco, because A) It was going direct to source, and B) It’s cheaper than buying them from any authorised reseller.

However, acm.mc do not have any online buying facility, which I found hard enough to get my head around to start with, so I decided to email them and ask them if I could send them my details by email, which they said I would be unable to do as they needed an image of my credit card in order to clear security details. So, I proceeded to fax them the application form and a copy of my credit card. However, I promptly received an email back stating that I would have to snail mail my application to them for my own security. Now, this just does not make sense to me, and pissed me off royally, given there’s already very limited availability for the race, and this is going to slow things down by at least a week given I initially applied for the tickets last Friday, and the application is only being posted today!

Pain in the eye

Tuesday, April 29th, 2003

I woke up on Saturday morning with an excruitating pain in my right eye. I put if down to tiredness given I was up at 6am for work on Saturday after working all week and being out Friday night, my eyes normally suffer pretty bad when I’m tired.

But driving to work on Saturday morning I had to slow right down once or twice due to my eye being so sore I couldn’t keep it open, and the fact that I had tears streaming down my face from it. That was the general pattern for the day, but I could not for the life of me remember anything blowing into it, or sticking my fingers into it or anything the like.

Sunday morning, was slightly better but still pretty bad. Managed to get through the day slightly better than Saturday, and I thought perhaps it was getting better.

Yesterday was better again early in the day, but as the day went on it got worse again, to the point where I went to the doctor last night, but he could find nothing wrong with it.

Today, it’s back to the really bad pains again, so I’m going to get myself off to see some sort of specialist. Don’t know if I’d be better going to an optician or the eye and ear hospital. I suppose I’d be more decisive if it was some other part of me that was broken other than my eye, cause there’s one thing that gets me really squeamish (when otherwise I’m normally fine with blood and guts) and that’s my eye, to the point where two nights in a row I’ve had nightmares about getting stuff done to my eye…yuck! :(

Rugby Rant

Tuesday, April 29th, 2003

I’ve just gone on a bit of a rant with my comment on pron’s blogging of the Leinster rugby match at the weekend. I’ve got it out of my system now, but if you want a read of what I had to say have a look

Linux Machine in Production

Monday, April 28th, 2003

Well, I finally brought a Linux machine into production as my main desktop in work. Gone and left Windoze 95 behind at last. I’m currently running RedHat 7.3 and so far I’m pretty happy with how things are going. There’s one or two things that I’m having a bit of trouble with, but I’m sure I’ll be able to work around these and wont have to revert back to doze too often!

Micro$oft, always good for a laugh

Friday, April 25th, 2003

Ah yes, good oul M$ just gave me a giggle again. I’ve been reading over an article# on internetnews.com extolling the virtues of Windows 2003.

What gave me a particular laugh was the below line

Service providers, Martin said, need a shared infrastructure to host more complex applications as efficiently as possible. In the competitive hosting market, economy of scale is critical. “It’s about manageability. Everything you can automate will benefit you by a thousand times over.”

So, er, where does Windoze fit into this?!?

Hotels Booked

Friday, April 25th, 2003

Well that’s all the hard work out of the way now, I’ve just booked the hotel in Glasgow. Gonna stay in the Millennium Hotel. It’s a nice spot, in a great location, been there for drinks before but never stayed.

Booked the hotel through a great site, Activehotels.com who had similar prices to my usual site for booking hotels, Superbreaks.com, however, they threw in a double room for the price of a single! :)

Being quiet lately

Friday, April 25th, 2003

Hmm, for some reason I’ve had feck all to say on here in the past day or two! Makes a change me not having anything to say I suppose, and I know plenty of people who’d say there’s no harm in that!

Rear of the Year

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2003

I see Natasha from Atomic Kitten has won Rear of the Year this year. Never really paid much attention to her, but I’ll be looking closer in future! ;o)

No Italian

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2003

I’ve just been sitting here thinking about the holiday I’m going on in a few weeks to France/Monaco/Italy. The time I spend in France/Monaco will be grand, given I’ve a good level of French, but getting around Italy is going to be a bit of a pain, given we plan on travelling around quite a bit, and my folks have decided to leave it up to me to arrange trains etc. I do not speak a word of Italian, nor do I know anything about the different regions etc as I would with France. Ah well, guess it’s time to start reading up on life in the Italian Riveria.

Despite all this, I really can’t wait for the holiday, and I’m especially looking forward to getting to the Monaco Grand Prix!! :)
