various recent things

monitor:
My ancient (’98) 21″ CRT has finally died, *click*, *click*, *click*, *zap*. It’s been a good servent (though awesomely heavy), followed me around the continent over the last eight years during my various moves so I’m sad to see it go, and the local electronic waste disposal rules make getting rid of it a real logistic nightmare. On the other hand with my new replacement 20″ LCD in place I realize that it was actually a really cruddy visual experience :-)

openoffice.org:
In possibly more relevent news, now that I’m back from holidays and the various 2.0.3 release (in a rawhide near you) and connected rebuilds panic is over, I got around to making a little starter list of some simple feature suggestions for OpenOffice.org which I’ve been kicking around for a while.

I’ve also readjusted the experiemental Gtk Unix Print dialog support in rawhide’s OOo to use the new dialog capabilities rather than my earlier custom hack, and modified the “print to PDF” handler to do just that directly without throwing up the earlier “export to PDF” secondary level dialog.

There’s some interesting linker work coming down the line which looks like it’ll be a bit win for OOo under linux, which looks pretty neat.

upnp & rhythmbox:
I was playing around with upnp device support for rhythmbox at the weekend, The good news is that I can discover my networked media center from rhythmbox and do some basic browsing, unfortunately rhythmbox occasionally falls during the process which requires some serious debugging when I get a chance.
