I have used SVN with latex for the past 18 months.
considering that my co-authors live in cork and finland i thought it would be a great help to ease paper writing and proof reading.
I set them up using Rapid SVN http://rapidsvn.tigris.org/
as gui interface and installed some graphical diff tools, "meld" for damien in linux and "beyond compare" for tom in windows.
After a introduction tutorial they were interested and convinced this was the way of the future.

But they never used it.
I got all their contributions emailed back to me (paper_tn_section.tex)
or in the style of "section 3, line 4 "it's" -> "it is",
or by fax of PDF with comments.

I just use it my self now. I branch when i send them a draft for comments, merge in the changes using vimdiff. etc.

Its a noble cause Aidan but unless it is so easy for them that they dont have to think they just will not use it.

I use Emacs :) Occasionally I use GEdit. So basically just a simple text editor and a Makefile.

Those demos on untergrund.net, are they yours?

Just started using LaTeX myself and absolutely love it. Wish I'd listened to you when you recommended it in the first few weeks of uni... Oh well. What editor do you recommend using? I'm using Notepad++ at the moment, which has syntax highlighting, but I miss my spell-checker!
