I went on a bit of a spending spree this weekend. It’s the first time since Metallica sued Napster that I’ve bought music. I’m all for musicians makeing money from their wares but I want my music in OGG Vorbis or FLAC format, and if I can’t get it I won’t buy it. Unfortunatly if I make a copy of a CD I own and rip it into FLAC format I’m a criminal due to laws supported by the music industry, so why should I support them. I don’t use WMA or AAC as I want to own the music I buy and I want to be able to play the music in five yars time.
So I bought the new Garbage album, the new Queens of the Stone Age album and some old school Machine Head and Pantera. Note that this is my second time paying for the Machine Head and Pantera albums. I used to own them on cassette tape (remember that) but I want them in a better quality. I don’t know why I have to repay for the music if I’ve only licenced it, surely I’ve bought a perputal licence to the music in any format I choose? I can understand why I have to repay if I own the CD.
We (Lori and I) bought a copy of Honey because it was as cheap as renting a DVD for the night. It was totally crap. I like to veg out and watch crap films once in a while, and by crap films I mean I. Robot and other such titles. However Honey was total crap. Even Lori, who is partial to the odd chick flick, thought it was useless.
The weekend was saved by the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I’m still undecided as to whether it is better than the original TV series or not. Obviously the effects are better, but the original series had a quirky charm to it even if Zaphods’ second head looked very strange.
